Metra Electric, Downtown, and the Bean

We went downtown today (aka The Loop) to a protest in favor of new trials for the victims of Jon Burge's torture. In order to get there and not pay for parking, we decided to take public transportation. The bus I thought we could take never showed up (I think maybe it doesn't run all day), so we hopped on the Metra. The Metra is a commuter rail that goes into the Loop. The line of the Metra that runs through Hyde Park is the Metra Electric.
With only a little bit of head scratching, we figured out how to use the ticket machine, and eventually made it downtown.
Once downtown, we decided to take the really long way to our destination (read: we were lost. Or really: we didn't know where we were going in the first place). But, alas! We made it to our protest.

After that, we went to eat at a place not really worth talking about. Then we decided to cross the street to get another picture of ourselves at the Bean! The Bean (actual name: Cloud Gate) is this giant silver bean in the middle of Millennium Park. It looks like this:
As you can see, you can walk under/inside the bean to see a strange, mirror-warp world:
Anyway, it's quite the destination for native and tourist alike.
And that picture of us at the top of this blog? That was taken at the Bean a few years ago. Now we have some new Bean pix to share. Prepare yourselves!

You'll notice in that last picture that a woman is asking us if we need her to take the picture for us. We said no.

And now some downtown Chicago and Metra Electric pictures!

Also, Blues Brothers came it today on Netflix. It's set in Chicago. Randi has never seen it.

  1. Randi has never seen the Blues Brothers? Wow, hard to believe. Report please when it's over.

  2. Groan...I am still so green with envy that you live in Chicago that it's a little hard for me to read your blog. Maybe I'll feel better when it snows there all winter long. *snicker*
